History of Automotive Paint protection

Good day readers, We are in the year 2019 and many of you are now getting intune with the whole “ Paint Protection” Phenomenal. Paint protection goes way back,  so let’s start with what paint protection is. Any external element which influences in protecting the paint surface of a automobile is paint protection. In 2019 there has been a major evolution in paint protection. Ceramic Coating and  Clear bra are taking over the paint protection. But when and where did all start?

Wax & Auto Detailing

1800 It was the first time wax  was invented from animal fats in germany . The small town of Bischofsheim was where it was created and was applied on the lacquer of horse carriages . This was the first time  someone decided to protect a surface of paint . It was the inception of all surface protection. 6 years down the line at 1886 the first automobile was launched this automobile was invented by karls benz in this day and age we know this brand as mercedes benz.

Fast forwarding a few years and we are in 1891 where  Frank meguiar Jr who had a furnisher polish lab and a small plant in his garage. Now meguiar’s is the one of the fastest growing giants in the detailing industry. The history of wax took an interesting turn in the 1920’s where 3M were getting into the picture  They invented the first waterproof sandpaper, They revolutionised the game totally in 1925 when they invented masking tapes which allowed auto detailers to get a sharp 2 tone paint job. After a couple of decades (1944) a company called plastone invented the first bottled car wash. This polish was invented by Ben Hirsch It than acquired the name turtle wax for its hard surface.

After this invention there was a major revolution in auto detailing. Many inventions followed in the years to follow like the first polymer sealant introduced in 1970 by Dupont in the same year  Japan and Europe were using metallic based paints with a clear coat. This clear coat system produced outstanding hardness, gloss and long lasting color. The process was brought to USA but for the first 2-3 years, there was clear coat failure in many cars.but then “ The twin head orbiter polisher which was used for air carriers was than applied to cars and was found to be an amazing paint correction for cars. Then in 1980 Detailing clay was introduced in Japan and than later in U.S.A  in the 90’s. The 90’s had got in major changes in the detailing scene. The clear coat industry were coming up with interesting solutions when it comes  colour of the vehicle and type of paint surfaces. Microfibers were first publicized in the early 1990s in Sweden and saw success as a product in Europe over the course of the decade. At the turn of the century in 2000  Ceramiclear was invented by PPG industries it was a coat that eliminated paint degradation from elements like UV rays, acid rain and salt. Then in 2007  Clear Paint sealants which are nanotechnology polymer coatings were invented. This is a brief his about invention of wax and auto detailing in general.

Polytetrafluoroethylene is also known  as PTFE is a synthetic fluoropolymer. The best known company for PTFE is Teflon. This is a spin off of from Dupont a company which  originally discovered PTFE in 1938. PTFE reduces friction, wear, and energy consumption of machinery. PTFE coating was famously used in cast irons   for non sticking purposes. Then it took a groundbreaking turn to the coating industry. It was used to coat “High end cars” but now its become very common to coat the car with teflon or PTFE coating . The teflon coating is 0.2 microns thick and forms a protective layer on the surface of the car. The overall protection for PTFE coating lasts for around 6 to 8 months. It honestly  was discovered by accident in lab by Roy J Plunkett from DuPont. But then came ceramic coating and took over from PTFE.To know the difference between  ceramic coating and PTFE coating.  Check out Ceramic coating vs PTFE coating

Ceramic Coating :

Nanoshine ltd in  2010 released a series of products that shook the world of auto detailing. A series of products developed with nanoceramic technology  to protect the surface of automobiles The Product works like magic and is very durable. Over 1 million cars have been coated by Ceramic Pro around the world.

The Product is so versatile that you can protect the surface of anything other than Human Skin. They are not only the leaders in the automotive industry but also are experts Coating in the Marine Industry,Aviation Industry, Industrial Industry and Home care. There was another breakthrough in 2014.  The biggest invention of surface protection The ceramic pro 9h. Its 3d mixture structure does wonders. It protects the surface from most surfaces and the bond is permanent. The future is bright for the detailing industry.
